Dr. Jared Roseman is an innovative educator and accomplished engineer. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University in Electrical Engineering where he designed the first fully-engineered biologically-powered microchip (Press Release). His research has been published in numerous journals including the prestigious Nature Communications, and he has received several awards for his research and teaching efforts. Prior to his groundbreaking Ph.D. work, Dr. Roseman was a lead engineer at Sandia National Laboratories, working on the United States Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) defense system, which protects the U.S. from incoming nuclear threats.

During his time at Sandia, his long-time interest in teaching, mentoring and team building continued and he could frequently be found in conference rooms teaching circuit theory to his colleagues and mentoring technologists who were studying to become engineers. While pursuing his Ph.D., Dr. Roseman continued his connection with teaching and student success through his university teaching responsibilities, in addition to building partnerships with organizations such as the The Studio School (ages 2-14), teaching and studying under Head of School Janet Rotter.

Dr. Roseman's method and teaching philosophy are influenced by his career as a practicing engineer, researcher and The Studio School Approach to education. His students appreciate his honest and grounded attitude toward teaching, in which a cooperative student-teacher relationship is maintained through frequent meta-conversations about the material and education itself. By establishing meaningful links between new material and each student’s own framework for interpreting the world, academic achievement is advanced and the stress experienced by today's learners is managed, both of which are key to being intellectually engaged. Dr. Roseman’s students develop a love for learning because they can consciously grasp how their education nurtures their soul.
